Dear friends,
A few weeks ago, I stuck three toothpicks in the side of an avocado seed and set it on the kitchen windowsill on top of a full water glass. I promised my husband it was going to grow.
The water got cloudy, and we changed it, but otherwise, for weeks, it looked as though nothing was happening.
And then last week, the seed showed a little slit down the side! So exciting.
We’ve been watching the crack closely since then, and today, we have a taproot! That’s the strong little beginning of a root that you see sticking out from the bottom. All that energy was stored inside the seed, and finally, it couldn’t contain it anymore, and it cracked itself open.
I’m so proud of it!
Like the avocado seed, I’ve been quietly growing something over the past few months, and today, I’m excited to stick out my own little taproot.
Welcome to Mothers in Leadership!
Over the past year, I’ve been facilitating small coaching groups for mothers in leadership roles. They’ve been so impactful that I’ve been looking for a way to spread the collective wisdom more widely, and to gather even more voices in the conversation.
Whether you’re a CEO, school principal, department head, entrepreneur, board member, or leading in any capacity while raising children, I have designed this space for you.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I’ll share stories, reflections, and curated resources to help you lead, parent, and flourish, free for anyone who subscribes. I have a year’s worth of ideas mapped out on sticky notes, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
As excited as I am about the writing I’ll be doing, I believe that the real power of this project will come from the community we build together. My hope is to create a space that feels trusting and intimate, where we can bring what is truly on our minds as both parents and leaders.
Mothers in Leadership is free for all subscribers. Your engagement – through comments, replies and feedback – is what makes this sustainable. Please let me know if something resonates with you or if you have an idea for a post. And if other subscribers make comments on posts, please encourage them and make them feel welcome!
